Literacy Skills

For the week of 5/11/09:

All students should be reading an AR book and take the appropriate quiz when finished. In-class on Monday and Friday we will have silent sustained reading (SSR). Students should be filling in their "in-class reading log" during this time. This log keeps track of what they are reading and how many pages they complete each day we have SSR/AR. When they take an AR test, they need to record this on the "student reading log". This log allows them to keep track of their AR points for the trimester. They can earn an extra 10 points towards their AR by keeping these two logs.

Each of the above logs we be evaluated for 10 AR points. If students fill them in and use them they will earn 10 points toward their AR goal for the trimester. Students may also complete a summary of any book they have read or finished this trimester for AR points. The summary should be 5 paragraphs long with the final paragraph explaining if the would or would not recommend the book. I have a worksheet they can use to help them write their summary

Students are required to read 20-30 minutes per night at home. Three nights per week they need to complete a reflection on their Think as You Read sheet. Parents should sign this sheet after it is complete.

Tuesday 5/12: Literature circles on Maximum Ride

Thursday 5/14: Maximum Ride

Friday 5/15: Silent sustained reading/AR.
